Job Description
As a Senior Consultant, you will provide customers technical leadership in the installation, configuration, and implementation of VMware products and technologies. The position requires the ability to execute small projects independently and to implement high-quality technical solutions based on VMware's server and desktop products.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain confidence of colleagues and customers
- Maintain current knowledge of the entire VMware product line
- Conduct pre-packaged VMware consulting solutions in a timely and effective manner
- Help to document best practices in developing and deploying virtualization solutions
- This position requires strong VMware/implementation experience. Candidates must hold current VMware Certified Professionals (VCP) certification with 3 years of experience as a VCP installing, configuring, and maintaining VMware ESX Server, VMware VirtualCenter, VMware P2V, and VMotion.
- Most projects will require P2V, V2V, and SAN Experience, and NetApp or EMC experience is a plus!
- You must be able to self motivate, work independently, communicate effectively and be able to work on multiple concurrent projects.
- Other desirable qualifications include knowledge of and experience with any or all of the following:
- SQL Server and .NET applications & administration
- VMWare ESX, Virtual Center or other virtualization software
- Storage architecture, capacity, allocation (quotas) and planning; VSS shadow copies, Live State recovery Imaging; Disaster recovery design and implementation
- HA/DR design and implementation
- Collaboration SW (SharePoint Portal Services a plus)
Technical Competencies
- Broad understanding of the x86 ecosystem including but not limited to:
- Infrastructure - Storage, networking, server infrastructure
- Software/OS - Windows, Linux partner ecosystem
- Virtualization technologies & architectures
- Security/Compliance
- Strong application software development for one or more of the Linux, Unix (e.g. Solaris), Windows NT and Windows 2000 operating systems. Systems programming or OS internal level skills would be an advantage
- Understanding of computer server architectures, including peripheral interfaces (SCSI, RAID, Ethernet) and multi-processor designs (SMP)
- Familiarity with systems management concepts, processes and standards (e.g. SNMP); capacity/performance management and tuning; and storage and network management
- Understanding of modern IT production data center and Internet (ISP/ASP) hosting operations
- Strong Perl programming/scripting skills desired. Programming in C/C++ and Unix shell are also an advantage
- A good practical understanding of Web-based application development, including cgi-bin, and Apache or IIS server platforms
- Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
- Ability to travel between 50-80 percent of the time
- B.S./B.A./M.S. degree or equivalent technical training
